For my 40th birthday, my mom and I celebrated with a memorable meal at Beside Balcony in La Jolla, and it was nothing short of perfect. The cozy-yet-elevated vibe of the restaurant, paired with its gorgeous location, made it the ideal setting for such a special day. We started with a toast—mimosas that were bright, bubbly, and just the right amount of celebratory. For the main event, we couldn’t resist the Spanish octopus, which was nothing less than a work of art. Braised and seared to perfection, it was tender, flavorful, and paired with an ensemble of ingredients that truly elevated the dish: creamy potato fondant, smoky bacon, peppery arugula, tangy feta, and sweet caramelized onions, all tied together with a lemon truffle vinaigrette. Each bite felt indulgent yet balanced, a thoughtful combination of richness and brightness. To complement the boldness of the octopus, we also ordered the BeeYoutiful Bowl—a fresh, vibrant dish that hit all the right notes. The combination of quinoa, edamame, garbanzo beans, arugula, brussel sprouts, red onions, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and avocado, all tossed in a lemon vinaigrette, felt like a nourishing hug in a bowl. It was hearty, healthy, and just bursting with flavor. What made the experience even better was the impeccable service. The staff was warm, attentive, and seemed genuinely invested in making the evening special. They added those small, thoughtful touches that make you feel like more than just another diner. This is such a charming little place! On the main drag of La Jolla on Prospect... It’s situated above Jose‘s. Just go up the escalator and you’re greeted by reception who will then offer you the option of indoor or outdoor seating. The decor is modern and warming with plants and designer lighting hanging from the ceiling. The eclectic menu includes such items as octopus, snails, oysters, muscles and much more. We opted for the hummus trio, which was absolutely fantastic, with perfectly seasoned and lightly crisp yet tender breads. Followed by the Bolognese, which has a subtle hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. I didn’t know if I would like that, but it was terrific. Rounding out, the dinner was the most mouthwatering, fall off the bone, pork dish, Ozo, and heavenly risotto. The indoor seating area is smaller and intimate so, perfect for a special occasion, intimate lunch, or dinner, or large party Our server Celine was lovely, knowledgeable, and extremely attentive. We’ll definitely repeat when I’m in the area!
Beautiful restaurant with lots of cute details. Really great service. Views of the ocean! Outdoor seating is lovely. I enjoyed the peach lemonade, crab cake, and gyro. A fantastic meal and ambiance
Everything was amazing. Beautiful view, great staff. The food was incredible and the amount of food exceeded the cost. No small plates here. The strawberry infused vodka was incredible. The nicest staff we have encountered.
Great place to go for brunch or dinner! This last brunch we had there was fantastic. Bottomless mimosas were a big bonus and staff was really nice! Really like their Bee's Board and the Avocado toast was one of the best one's we've had. If you're in the mood for something sweet, the acai bowl is a great choice. Great views too!
beesidebalconylajolla has been always my favorite spot in @lajolla.ca with their amazing view to the downtown and the unique chef’s menu that you can’t say anything but amazing. this time i got to try @chef_christophe.c ‘s honey as well came straight from his farm
Wow!! We had the absolute loveliest meal here for our anniversary! Just spotted it from the street, trying to get a view of the sunset over the water--we not only got the most PERFECT view of the sunset, we got an absolutely delicious meal and cocktails, and some amazing local honey! The escargot was amazing! Cecile, our waitress, was absolutely lovely. Super attentive, very sweet, very knowledgeable, generally made the end of our night fantastic. This place is a must-do if you're in the LA Jolla/San Diego area.
It is restaurant week and we are glad we went to Beeside Balcony. We are so happy to have a table with an awesome view. The 3 course meals are wonderful. Our server, Cecile, is amazing. She has great customer service. My husband left his phone. We came back and Cecile had set it aside for our return. We are so thankful for that.
